Every morning between 6 & 8 am I go for a 5 mile walk through my little bedroom community just south of Nashville. There’s a group of us that do this. Some jog, some walk, occasionally someone even canters, but every morning I see the same folks out for a bit of early morning exercise. And every morning, as we pass each other, we smile broadly, offer up a friendly, “G’morning!”, and some, myself included, give a little wave or nod in greeting.

Well, I hate to say it; but thanks to President Obama’s passing of the VOW to Hire Hero’s Act, next Monday I’ll be starting back to college. This almost makes me want to vote for him in November, but I digress. It’s been sixteen years since I last attended an institute of higher learning, and I must admit to being a little apprehensive. I find myself asking, how much has changed during that time span? Do students even take pen and paper to class or just their laptops and iPads?

Very few things find both David and I prancing around like giddy, or in this case “Geddy”, school girls. Today marks the release of RUSH’s 20th studio album Clockwork Angels. Both David and I have been fans since our high school days when we were blaring “Tom Sawyer” and “Subdivisions” out of our stereo speakers. So it is with baited breath that I await the arrival of this new album today.
Unlike the days of old when you had to run down to Tower Records or some other outlet to buy your album on vinyl, (yep, gonna age myself with that reference.) I’ve had the chance to listen to three tracks that have been pre-released and I’m excited to hear the whole sha-bang. Then again, I’d get this album without having previously heard anything because I’m such an uber fan, and I’ve never felt cheated by doing so. [Read more…]
